We woke up in Middle Ridge Travel Plaza on the Ohio Turnpike, on the west side of Cleveland.
In OH we found out they have these great rv areas at every other travel plaza along the OH Turnpike. It cost $20 for electric plugins, which allowed us to use the AC overnight. They have very nice showers (free). And there is a dump station and water spigot, if your camper is so inclined! It will cost you to drive the road, around $20 with a 1 axle trailer the whole way across Ohio. However, not staying on the turnpike would make it cheaper.
We kind of took our time and enjoyed some coffee and cooked up some breakfast, because we had a long drive ahead of us… It was Sunday morning, and our next reservation was Monday night in Montana. We decided to shift drive since we had so many miles to cover, where one drives while the other sleeps, not stopping to sleep at night.
We left the travel plaza late morning, and drove thru Ohio, and into Indiana, where we jumped off I80 (toll) part way thru and went up into the very southern part of Michigan for a bit. Then into Illinois, thru Chicago, and into Wisconsin. In WI we hit some heavy rain, and pulled over for a nap. Then since I’d been napping for a while before the rain, I took over driving.
During the night we drove thru the rest of Wisconsin, thru Minnesota, and into North Dakota.
Around 3:30pm on Monday we finally made it to the Montana border! However, since it’s a rather large state (4th biggest in the US), we still had a ways to go…
We finally arrived at Norris Hot Springs in Norris, Montana a bit after 8pm. Much later than we wanted, so we quickly set up a few things so we could plug in and get the heat on to keep the dogs comfy so we could go jump in the hot springs before they closed!
We very much enjoyed our time in the hot springs, in the cold dark evening air. I didn’t bother taking a single picture. We just sat and enjoyed.
The food was really good and they even had a hard cider on tap! Both the “bar menu” and the dinner menu (when open) had numerous gluten free items. We tried the nachos, and despite letting them get cold, we really enjoyed them!
