We kind of relaxed and took our time all morning, because it meant we were late enough pulling out that my brother was just getting out of work and we could see all of them again before we left town!
After visiting for a while, getting groceries, gassing up and getting coffee… We hit the road again.
We headed northeast out of Colorado Springs, on Rte 24. But when we got to where it met I70 we decided we liked the back roads. So we headed north on Rte 71.
This was not a bad idea! The road was just as good as the interstates we’d been on. And we weren’t getting passed like crazy while doing our 60-65mph. In fact, there was hardly any traffic…
You see some crazy things on side roads!! 😉
We drove thru a huge windmill farm! It was amazing, it just kept going and going…
Then as the sun got low, we pulled off at a cross roads to watch…
We followed Rte 71 up to I76 and we jumped on the interstate there, since it was getting later and dark.
We decided to stick to interstates for the later hours, since there’s always services along interstates (rest areas, truck stops, gas, etc). Plus, if we needed it, it’s much more likely to have cell signal along a major highway corridor than in the middle of nowhere.
We made it to North Platte Nebraska, where we stopped at the Walmart there.
