MT & WY & CO – Road Trip 2015 Day 10-11

RoadTrip-82

The cool thing about going back the way you came, is you have already seen if there’s anything neat you want to stop at…

This was one of those spots! On the way out, we saw this spot [45.70255, -110.26209] right off I90 along the Yellowstone River. Super quiet, it was a great place to pull over and grab a snack.

Since we weren’t that far from Norris, we weren’t really in need of a long stop. So after peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we continued on.

We made it to Sheridan Wyoming before we stopped for the night at the Walmart there.

We didn’t know it at the time, but this stop would become one of the biggest jokes of our trip…

I was driving the last shift, and when we pulled in and found the “RV section”, I parked near the middle under a light. For security purposes and all that. The really nice thing about a tiny camper is you can park in 2 regular spots in a parking lot, one for the Jeep and one for Pe@rl. However, my PB declared that to be a bad spot because it was slightly angled. So at his directions, I pulled down in front of another RV parked along the edge. It was kind of hot and sticky, but the cool evening air was moving in. We were both tired, so we hopped in the camper and cracked the windows and turned on the fan.

When we got up in the morning, we set to packing up. Still noticing the funny smell we noticed the night before. I didn’t think anything of it, because air everywhere smells different… I’ve been a farmer and my nose doesn’t really notice much…

As we finished packing up and throwing out the trash, the fellow from the RV behind us went to the dumpster across the grass strip from where we were both parked to throw out his trash and declared “there’s a deer carcass in there”. Sure enough, my PB went and looked, there really was! Thankfully we were upwind of that all night! And it was decided I shouldn’t be given any flack for the rest of the trip for where I wanted to park… because if I’d parked us the night before we would have slept half a parking lot away from the rotting deer carcass! 🙂

We had reserved a spot at Cheyenne Mountain State Park for our 2 night stay in Colorado Springs. We were 1 day late for our reservation, so we’d called ahead. Our spot would be waiting, and then they would try and find us a place for the second night.
